Rubio, Villaraigosa, and the fight for the Latino vote

At the Republican National Convention this week, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) responded to LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s comments that the Republican Party is having a difficult time attracting Latino voters. Rubio believes that both parties are having a difficult time reaching out to the Latino community and addressing Latino issues.

Rubio firmly believes that the GOP must not be the “anti-illegal immigration party,” but must become the “pro-legal immigration party.” Rubio added that Democrats have also done little for Latinos, and that President Obama’s executive order to stop deporting younger undocumented immigrants is not the right solution. Instead, Rubio believes that Romney will be the candidate who can implement long-term solutions to the immigrantion issue, not short-term ones.

What do you think of Marco Rubio’s faith in the Mitt Romney to properly address Latino issues, primarily that of immigration? Do you feel that the Republican Party is out of touch with the Latino community?
