PROTEST OF MONEY-BASED EXCLUSION OF EMANUEL PLEITEZ, CANDIDATE RUNNING FOR MAYOR OF LOS ANGELES, FROM LEAGUE OF CONSERVATION VOTERS DEBATE
Pleitez supporters stage walkout of televised mayoral candidate debate on ABC 7
LOS ANGELES – Fifty supporters of Emanuel Pleitez gathered in front of the Aratani Japan America Theater during last night’s League of Conservation Voters mayoral debate. ABC7 aired the live debate. Inside the debate, fifteen supporters stood up in protest and walked out while chanting, “Let Pleitez debate.”
The LALCV excluded Emanuel Pleitez from the debate because he did not raise $200,000 by the September 30th filing deadline, a requirement set by LALCV. Pleitez outraised candidate Kevin James in that quarter and had more cash on hand than James by the deadline.
Pleitez has received the support of over 1,000 people for his inclusion in the debate, many from underserved areas in South LA, East LA, and the East Valley. Supporters signed an online petition, posted photos and voiced their support.
