Below is an excerpt from the Emanuel Pleitez for Los Angeles Mayor campaign blog from Emanuel’s wife, Rebecca Pleitez, which discusses the exclusion of Emanuel Pleitez from a mayoral candidate forum on affordable housing. “Angelenos deserve to know there is a candidate who has an intimate personal connection with L.A.’s problems. Someone who has felt that uneasiness in his stomach and distress in his heart when seeing the worried look of uncertainty on his mothers’ face.
I write today as a concerned citizen, and as the wife of an exceptional mayoral candidate. My husband’s exclusion from this debate speaks volumes about the need for reform of the forums and debates that should ensure we don’t ignore the needs of Angelenos who, like my husband, share a similar story. I strongly urge organizations to set politics aside and give all candidates a chance to voice different approaches about tackling the city’s most daunting housing challenges.”
